February 19, 2024

The blast left nine firefighters injured

A statement released by a Carson-based company, which owns the compressed natural gas-powered commercial vehicle involved in the explosion incident in Wilmington, conveyed the company's initial response and ongoing actions regarding the incident. The company had just replaced many of its diesel powered trucks with these compressed natural gas vehicles in 2021.

The company affirmed its active engagement in investigating the incident, highlighting collaboration with relevant authorities to ascertain the cause of the explosion. Furthermore, it confirmed the well-being of the driver involved in the accident.

In light of local and federal investigations, representatives from the company acknowledged visits to their offices and reiterated their cooperation with authorities. The parent company of the firm, TTSI, was noted to possess clean safety records with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, although specific details regarding any prior incidents involving its subsidiaries remain undisclosed.

Additionally, the company's previous initiative of transitioning a portion of its fleet to compressed natural gas vehicles, akin to the vehicle involved in the Wilmington explosion, was underscored. Despite such efforts, the explosion resulted in major injuries to two Los Angeles firefighters, with one airlifted to a specialized burn center for treatment and the other in critical, yet stable condition as of Friday morning.
